The practice of breastfeeding is spreading thanks to initiatives and interventions for its promotion; therefore, more and more women are breastfeeding according to the recommendations of the World Health Organization, ie up to two years of the child's life and even beyond.

There is a big difference between breastfeeding a newborn and breastfeeding a child of one, two or more years but it is not always possible to find consistent and updated information on this specific topic.

In addition to not finding satisfactory answers to the many, inevitable doubts, mothers who breastfeed a child aged around one year or more often feel isolated and have no opportunity to exchange views and experiences on the subject.

Often they clash with the disapproval and ignorance of those around them, made up of clichés such as that according to which at a certain point "milk becomes water".

Who has the right to decide on its duration? On what basis? What does it mean, today, to breastfeed until one year and much beyond, and what does it mean for the mother, for the father and for the child?
